Take part in paid focus groups and user research
Companies pay real money for two hours of your opinions on their product. Not surveys; moderated sessions with a screening call and a cheque.
- Who pays you
- Market research agencies and product teams pay you a fixed fee per session, by bank transfer, gift card or cheque, for participating in a moderated focus group, interview or usability test.
- Outcomes
- 0 receipts. Nobody's reported back on this one yet. Receipts open when accounts launch.
How it works
Market research firms and software companies recruit ordinary people for in-person and online sessions: focus groups about a new snack, interviews about how you choose insurance, usability tests of an app. Sessions last one to two hours and pay a fixed fee that is far above survey rates. You register with legitimate recruitment panels, complete screening questionnaires honestly, and get invited when your profile matches. It is occasional, not regular; a few sessions a month is a lot.
What it actually takes
- Registering with real research recruiters, not "paid survey" sites. The former screen you with a phone call and pay per session; the latter are in the graveyard.
- Honesty on screeners. Lying to qualify gets you removed and wastes everyone's time.
- Availability during working hours for some sessions.
- Where you live matters: the research industry is concentrated in some countries and cities.
Where it goes wrong
- Confusing it with survey sites. Different thing entirely.
- Expecting regularity. It's a bonus, not income.
- Anything that asks you to pay to join. That's a scam, always.
- Professional respondents get blacklisted. Do it occasionally and truthfully.
